You do not need access to a forest. Many investigations can begin in a backyard, neighborhood, local park, walking trail, pond, field edge, or even around a bird feeder. The goal is to notice wildlife signs wherever you already live and explore.

Tracks are only one kind of clue. Kids can also look for feathers, fur, scat, chewed plants, nests, holes, scratch marks, food remains, trails, and other animal signs. The book teaches them to think like a detective instead of relying on footprints alone.

Older children may be able to complete many of the indoor pages independently, but outdoor investigations are best done with a parent or responsible adult. The activities are designed to encourage family exploration and conversation, not just independent worksheet time.
